Controlling Emotions, is my topic on this week’s “Bleeding Heart Chronicles”. Good morning, love. Emotions can cause you to experience highs and lows that can significantly affect your well-being. But emotions are a vital part of our everyday lives. So learning to control them is equally as important.

Men and women have evolved different emotional psychology. However the gap in emotions between men and women are not as far apart as you would expect. Studies have clearly shown that men and women did not differ overall in their intensity of moment-to-moment emotional reactions. But when it comes to emotional processing, the differences are quite clear. Overall men and women experience a range of emotions very similar but express them in different ways. The ability to control our emotions can affect more than just our health, but give clues into hidden psychological mood.

Studies have shown that the root of psychological disorders such as depression and borderline personality disorder is your inability to control your emotions. Unfortunately the study of emotions is not an exact science. But research into the specific role of emotion control has shown promising results. One area is social anxiety disorder. Which is the persistent, intense, and chronic fear of being watched and judged by others and of being embarrassed or humiliated by their own actions. This disorder can benefit from interventions that help them change the way they appraise social situations, according to the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. This therapy shows that the way an individual thinks and feels affects the way he or she behaves. So learning to change the way we think or how something makes us feel can directly help us control our emotional response in this particular situation.

How you control your emotions, can also directly affect how other people will perceive you. If you express road rage at a driver who cuts you off or slams their brakes on in front of you, you could recieve much unwanted attention. Although at the time your enraged action may make you feel better, you could also be placing your life and others in danger. You may find your road rage to be linked to anxiety of being late and in a rush. Change this by leaving earlier. If you express your outrage to everyone around you when you become aggravated, your lack of control of your emotions could cost you a job, end your relationship or endanger your health. If you find the person you are outraged at to be very annoying, find ways to avoid this person. We’ve all lost control at one point or another. It’s human to not be perfect. But excessive loss of control of our emotions can never lead down a good road. Getting our emotions under control become vital for our overall health. And removing the triggers can help.

Our deepest emotions are the core driving force of our beliefs. Have you ever played a situation out in your head? Then decided to not even act because you are convinced you know exactly how it will turn out. Chances are, you felt worse about the situation afterwards. But, it hasn’t happened. At least not yet. You need to change the way you think about your situations. We feel sad when we lose something. Anger when a goal is missed. Happy if we feel something great is about to happen. By changing your thoughts, you can change the way you believe the situation is affecting you. By replacing the thoughts that would lead to you being upset, with thoughts that bring you peace or joy, you could avoid making your situation much worse. By changing your mood, you may be able to affect the outcome of your situation, to a more positive ending. Understandably a lot of people have a degree of social anxiety. Fear of making a mistake or embarrassing yourself in front of a lot of people can lead to a negative outcome. However, you need to realize that people often do not judge you as harshly as you imagine. So, try to relax.

One emotion that is very difficult to overcome for most, is disappointment. There will always be events in your life that will not go the way you think. People will always do the very thing, you’d think they wouldn’t do. There will always be things you fail at. The problem is trying to control situations that can not be controlled. Demanding more from people than we should. Setting our own goals too high. By modifying our expectations, we can avoid most disappointments. Why worry over situations you can not control? Learn to appreciate what others do for you and expect little to nothing from them. It’s ok to have high goals, but you should always set smaller goals that will eventually lead you to the larger goal. This way instead of a possible large disappointment, you can enjoy small victories that will keep you encouraged long enough to reach your much larger goal.

We live in a world that becomes a tragedy to those who feel. But can be an amusement to those who learn how to think. It is said that we are slaves to our emotions and our emotions are slaves to our thoughts. We should never live at the mercy of our emotions. And we should learn to control our thoughts. For if we control our thoughts, we control our emotions. As always, I stand with you. I bleed with you. Together we can control our emotions and pursue a brighter day with happiness in our life. Because Together we are unstoppable, my love! Blessings and positive energy to you all, Always and forever!
