Surviving politics, the new religion, is my topic on this week’s “Bleeding Heart Chronicles”. Good morning, love. Well, I finally decided to do what I said I’d never actually do. Write about one of the two most divisive and destructive subjects n the world. Religion and politics.
Religion and politics are the two most dangerous forces in this world. These two subjects can split families, lose friends and cause your own death. In the past, organized religion was a power to be reckoned with. If you swayed from what was considered mainstream religion, even if you believed in the same God, you could lose your life. Today, the same is true with politics. You can believe in the same party, but if you do not go with the mainstream, you could be bullied, shamed and even lose your life. Yes, mainstream media has done a wonderful job of hiding the violence and even some deaths surrounding political leanings.
Clearly there is a shift in the way people think about politics and religion. I’ve seen stats that back this up. In 1960 75% of Americans say that religion is important to their lives. By 2015, that figure had dropped to 51%. The same period saw a dramatic change in views toward political leanings. In 1960, only 5% of Americans, said they would be displeased if their son or daughter married someone of a different political stripe. by 2015, that figure rose to 43% would be upset if their son or daughter married someone of a different political stripe.
Politics through social media has silenced more voices than I’ve ever seen before. Platforms that say they promote freedom of speech are silencing and deleting profiles that do not go with the mainstream or follow their agenda. News anchors who finally speak the truth or have a different opinion end up being fired. Political activist resort to violence with weapons against people with a different opinion, while that news is being suppressed and cheered on by the media. Kids are being bullied and beat up at school for having an outspoken political parent. There are threats of death on Social Media to anyone who would dare to have a different political opinion.
We live in the age of misinformation. I’ve seen more post on Social media that can be proven wrong by a simple Google search. And yet with all the information at our fingertips, there are those who refuse to stop spreading false stories and promoting division and encouraging violence. And those that refuse to fact check stories. We have failed our youth when violence is the only means of solving situations to them. We have failed them, when they readily believe anything they are told without checking multiple sources before coming to a conclusion. ALL of the Social Media is failing us in delivering truth and different opinions when they are steadlity silencing independent voices.
We live in a polarized world. No one has the right to tell you what you can wear and not wear. No one has the right to threaten violence against you just because you have a different political opinion. In the end, we need to realize we are ALL in this together. I am NOT your enemy and YOU are NOT mine. We are family. We may argue or disagree but in the end, what affects you affects me. I stand with you. I bleed with you. We will pursue a brighter day and happiness in our life. We will survive politics. Because Together we are unstoppable, my love! WE will find our on way through this! Always and forever!
